Our 3-year-old Candy Ride filly Western Lane finally lived up to her lofty expectations, taking a Maiden Special Weight victory in the 1st at Aqueduct on Sunday, December 18th.
In a small but salty race, Western Lane sat off the pace for most of it, saved all the ground on the rail, and was able to get first run at the leader, hanging on to best a first-time Chad Brown starter by a long neck. A great ride by the under-appreciated Luis Rodriguez Castro.
After struggling to find the right fit (dirt, grass, long, short) for this filly, trainer Natalia Lynch seems to have finally figured her out. A notoriously quirky filly, the patience and persistence of a model horseman paid off in the end.
We’re excited to get her maiden out of the way and still feel like her best is yet to come, and potentially on a different surface, due to her regal Juddmonte breeding.
Congrats to all our partners, and we look forward to more from Western Lane!
