2020 proved to be a challenging year for most of us, and horse racing was no different, with track closings and showcase meetings being held without fans. But despite this there were still great stories and great victories to celebrate.
In the midst of the uncertainty of the pandemic Blue Streak Racing had a breakout year. We made six trips to the winner’s circle at four different tracks – including Saratoga for the 2nd year in a row – and earned over $150,000 along the way.
The lion’s share of the purse money was made by our 2-year old (now turned three) Rossa Veloce. Our 2019 yearling purchase, who we grabbed for the bargain price of $12,000 at auction, won at first asking in Saratoga. She then competed in Graded stakes company, placed in a NY-bred stakes, and finished out the year with a win in allowance company.
We also ventured outside NY, opening our second string in West Virginia at Charles Town, capturing three victories with trainer Jack Hurley.
Of course, present success doesn’t guarantee future success, so you have to build your bench. To that end, we welcomed our third yearling purchase, a filly by Point of Entry, and our retired mare Viserion welcomed her first foal, a filly by Weekend Hideaway. Hopefully these horses will progress to the races, along with any future claiming horses we add to the stable.
We at Blue Streak Racing feel blessed to not only have weathered 2020, but to progress to our highest level of success to date. We can only hope 2021 can live up to that, and provide even better opportunities.
